SIGG Thermo (Review)

As a family we have been using SIGG bottles for three years now and they are a constant when we leave the house. We always have our water bottles with us, even if we're only popping to the shops, and I can't even begin to imagine how much money we've saved on not buying a bottle of water whilst out, let alone the environmental impact not buying plastic bottles has made. We have honestly not bought any plastic bottles of water in three years!

The SIGG Thermo is the newest addition to the range and something that I've been waiting for for a long time. It is their insulated drinks bottle, and is one of the best flasks we've tried. The bottles are made from high-quality 18/8 stainless steel and due to the double walled vacuum insulation, drinks are kept hot, or cold, for many hours.

And so to test this claim that the SIGG Thermo maintains its temperature for hours, we recently tested the 0.75l insulated flask we'd been sent to review whilst on holiday in Cornwall.

On the Sunday we decided a trip to Polzeath beach was in order, and my sister-in-law brought a Kelly Kettle with us so that we could make some hot chocolate. I filled the Thermo up halfway with cold milk (as I know The Boy can't handle hot drinks very well) and we sent off to make a fire on the beach.

Sigg Thermo 1

The Boy helped make the fire and then we boiled up some hot water to make the hot chocolate. The milk that came from the Thermo was indeed still icy cold and it make it a lot easier for him to drink his warming drink on the beach.

This might not seem a very thorough test of the insulating capabilities but what I will say is that it is a very practical flask to use. The drinking cup can be stored on either the top or the bottom of the flask, but we kept it on the bottom mainly because it meant that we could clip the SIGG Thermo to our rucksack using a carabiner; it makes it a lot easier to carry around. My sister-in-law actually works in the outdoors and pointed out that the added bonus of it not fitting over the top of the flask is that when it's removed for a top-up, there isn't a steady stream of dregs trickling down the flask from the upside down cup! A definite bonus on a beautiful white flask!

To truly test out the Thermo we filled it full of hot coffee the next day when we visited The Eden Project. My husband made the coffee at 11am and we set off for the day. The SIGG Thermo holds three and a half mugs full of coffee which I knew would keep him going during the long day ahead and sure enough he sat down to have his first cup of hot coffee around 1.30pm. He then had another cup at four o'clock when we were recovering from the 33°C temperatures of the Rainforest Biome.

And finally when we returned home in the evening, and were unpacking our bag from the day at eight o'clock, he poured the last mug out. I'm not sure if you can see this image properly but the coffee is still steaming and was still almost too hot to drink; a full nine hours after it had been made!

Sigg Thermo 3

I've never known an insulated drinks flask to work as well as this did, to still be producing a piping hot drink nine hours after it was first made is a pretty amazing feat. The fact that the SIGG Thermo is once again a beautifully designed bottle, free from harmful substances such as BPA or phthalates, practical in design and elegant to look at, comes as no surprise to me.

The SIGG Thermo is available in 0.3l, 05.l, 0.75l and 1l bottles, with prices starting from £19.99 for the smallest.

Sigg With Cuipo: One Metre At A Time (Review)

Since I first started reviewing SIGG eco water bottles (nearly two years ago) I have purchased no more than five plastic water bottles. That's an absolute maximum, and a generous top limit at that.

The first thing we do when we get ready to go out is fill up our water bottles and put them in whichever bag is accompanying us. And, by the time we've brought them home again, they're empty. We're drinking more, saving money, and reducing the amount of rubbish in landfill sites. My first post about our SIGG bottles provided the statistic of having prevented me from buying approximately fifteen bottles in that first month.

15 bottles a month x 23 months since I had my first SIGG bottle = 345 less bottles in landfill.

(It has its downfalls; there are loads of craft activities I've seen on Pinterest that I can't do because I have no plastic bottles!)

The latest collection of SIGG bottles that found their way to us, were produced under collaboration with Cuipo.org. The Cuipo Rainforest Preserve is in Panama. A rainforest which was once protected from the outside world by harsh geography is under threat of deforestation due to improved transportation. Agriculture, logging, development, mining, and tourism have all played a part in its destruction. Cuipo.org have managed to secure 3,300 acres of this rainforest and through the campaign 'One Metre at a Time' are working to safeguard and preserve square metres of the rainforest, one metre at a time. There is a range of products available to purchase which allow the customer to redeem a voucher and therefore 'Save a metre'. And the campaign is also helping to teach indigenous people the skills required to protect their land by becoming park rangers.

And this is where SIGG come in. Each SIGG bottle sold saves one square metre of the rainforest. The first set of Cuipo bottles from SIGG are available in 0.6 and 0.3 litre sizes. Customers purchasing a SIGG Cuipo receive a unique activation code and by entering the code on the Cuipo website, the customers can view their square metre of rainforest via Google Maps.

We were sent the 'Steve the Sloth' (for me, how apt!), 'Bring Your Own Bananas' (Mr. TBaM) and 'Tiko' (for The Boy) bottles to try out and redeem our three metres. And they were just the thing to quench our thirst on a warm Spring day full of frisbee throwing and tree climbing. We may not have tropical rainforests over in Wales, but The Boy certainly treasures any forest he can get to grips with!

The special edition SIGG Cuipo bottles are available from both SIGG online and the Cuipo website directly, from £16.49.

SIGG Dino Glow Active Top

SIGG have a new design out for the drinking caps on the environmentally conscious and durable, eco-bottles. The new Active Top is a soft-spout, similar to a straw which is innovative in appearance and functionality, and can be used with water, juice or carbonated drinks.

The Active Top twists to open and close, but on the way from close to open it passes through the 'air' setting which is perfect if the bottle contains a carbonated drink which needs to let out the excessive 'fizz' before being able to drink from it.

Hot Wheels On A Hot Bottle (Review)

Coinciding nicely with the latest edition to our Hot Wheels track collection, was the arrival of a new water bottle for The Boy from SIGG Eco Bottles. The Boy already had a small bottle which he is incredibly fond of and has served him well, but as he is about to turn three next month, SIGG felt that he probably was drinking more and therefore needed a larger bottle to keep him going during the day.

And he is now a boy obsessed! His old bottle lies feeling sorry for itself in the cupboard, I even have to alternate them so as not to cause jealousy and sibling squabbles.

Hot Wheels has been everywhere with us: to the beach, to Pizza Express and bowling. It had issues when we went bowling, a lack of opposable thumbs meant it was difficult to pick up the ball.

The Hot Wheels bottle is a really good sized bottle for the pre-schooler; not too heavy to carry, holds enough water to quench his thirst and also looks really attractive. On top of this, the aluminium casing means that it tends to stay cooler for a lot longer than plastic bottles. And surely the fact that we're teaching our children to be eco-friendly is a big bonus?

The Hot Wheels SIGG EcoBottle is available from SIGG directly.

The Boy was sent this bottle for the purpose of this review. His opinion is honest and unbiased, as is mine.

SIGG Eco Bottle: Undersea Poetry (Review & Competition)

As you may know, I am a SIGG Mummy which involves us reviewing products for SIGG Eco Bottles. We've had bottles sent to us for all the family for both hot and cold drinks, and also food storage tins. Every single product we have, we use throughout the week and test them to destruction. Only you would really need to do some damage to destroy these bottles.

Take my bottle for instance: it comes out in my handbag with my every time I leave the house and comes into school with me on my working days. It's covetted by all the girls in the school, goes in many different classes and everyone knows which bottle I'm talking about if I've left it in a classroom. I've dropped it on the playground countless times. Granted, there are small dents in it to show for it's playground antics, but they just add to the appeal of my SIGG bottle. These specially crafted bottles are tough and durable, they can stand a fall over on the tarmac.

Keeping Warm With SIGG

A couple of months ago, I was pleasantly surprised one day to receive a parcel from one of my favourite companies: SIGG. They make stunningly beautiful, resuable and practical water bottles, and in this parcel were a few essentials for the Winter.

They were to prove to come in very useful during one of our favourite excursions in October: our first football match!

Daddy SIGG

Well, aren't I the lucky one?

It started on what the Boy would call "Daddy's Day", but what everyone else calls Fathers' Day. I'd been impressed with the Boy's Desert Fun and his Mummy's Summer Splash, and so the Boy's Mummy decided that I needed a SIGG bottle of my own. Knowing that I'm not a bright designs type of person, she chose a classic 'Heritage' for me and, knowing how much I would be using it don't drink enough at all during the day; one that could take a full litre.

Since then, it's been everywhere with us. I've packed it alongside the Boy's and his Mummy's bottles for trips to beaches and all over the country, but more importantly also take it to work with me every day. Aside from yesterday, when I was in such a rush I forgot it; I knew something was missing but I was already on my way to work before I realised what. Now, the Boy's Mummy can be sure I won't forget to drink water during the day, and I don't have to worry about walking halfway around the builiding just to find a usable tap.

What's more, the Boy and his Mummy even chosen a specific lid. Not one of these new-fangled coloured caps, this one is metal all the way. It's not the only SIGG bottle in the office; a colleague has the Vipers Illusion design on his, and he swears by his SIGG's durability.

A classic design through and through, and a fantastic and much-appreciated present.

Get Sporty With SIGG EcoBottles

To coincide with the fact that hubby had a brand-new SIGG bottle all of his own for Fathers' Day, I am giving away another one of their fabulous bottles.

This time it's a Wide Mouth Sports Bottle in red, and very gorgeous looking it is too. Not only a stunning cherry-red colour, it's also incredibly practical. The opening to the bottle is wider than normal which is great for popping ice-cubes in to keep you fully refreshed while getting hot and sweaty, being all healthy! It then has the normal SIGG mouthpiece screw on top, so while it comes with a pop-up drinking spout, you can easily change it for any of the other SIGG mouthpieces.

The Adventures of ….

And so it seems that when Uncle Heritage heard the tales of Desert Fun and Summer Splash, he felt left out. Begging Grandpa and Grandma SIGG to let him travel from their Swiss home to the unfamiliar territory of Wales, he was welcomed into the family to play alongside The Boy's bottle and his mummy's bottle. His destiny was to belong to the daddy of the family. The daddy was very happy because he had secretly been feeling very left out! Desert Fun and Summer Splash were also happy because they had missed their favourite uncle very much!

(P.S. I've got another SIGG competition running over here)
