I have a new hobby!
For quite some time now I've fancied having a go at making a crocheted blanket, and had the idea to make it for my sister to cheer her up and keep her warm during her chemotherapy. However, I've not managed to get around to it because I've thought it harder than it is. Yesterday (the first day of her treatment), I decided to peruse YouTube for some tutorials. After a while I managed to find a good selection and it's fair to say that I'm not 'hooked'.

Beautiful crochet squares – so sorry to hear that your sister is undergoing chemotherapy and hope it is successful x
Thank you, much appreciated.
I wish I could do this. I have no hand eye coordination so I usually end up just stabbing myself. I like all the pretty colors.
I'm having fun combining the colours together.
Good luck making theblanket. Very thoughtful of you. Hope your sister's treatment goes well.
Thank you, the next five months can't go quickly enough!
Those are fab! it's impressive that you did that many on your first day.
Sending lots of positive vibes to your sister and you.
I *really* needed distracting.
Gorgeous! I cannot crochet to save my life! ๐
I didn't think I'd be able to either!
Big hugs to you and your family. These are so pretty – you're very clever, she will love it! X
Hope so, thanks!
Glad the treatment has begun, waiting is the hardest thing, thinking of you all, not sure I could sit and do those squares but a lovely idea. I did make a jumper once as a teenager, but nothing since!
Sitting and waiting to hear how she's been doing has been incredibly hard, leaving her and her husband to it is frustrating, but needs must!
Wow you have made a really good start and your sister will love it I am sure. She will always be getting a big warm hug from you. Stay positive. I just read a post in the photography group Having a remarkable year and one of the men had said his son has a condition called KLS but he thinks of it now as Keep Living Strong which I think is a great one to remember xx
What a wonderful outlook to that illness! And yes, I hadn't thought about it being like a warm hug, that's even more motivation to get it finishes.
You've really got the hang of it well done. I'm still struggling with it all feeling very awkward, but I'll keep going with it.
Keep going, it's so much fun! Have you tried the Bella Coco YouTube tutorials?
Great idea being creative and busy while making something for your sister! I tried crochet once long long ago and it was such a disaster I've never tried again.
I didn't think I'd be able to do it, I'm too messy normally, but it just goes to show how determined I was.
Great start, keep going. Crochet is great as you can take it anywhere and do it when you are watching tv, on the bus, waiting for the kids etc. Your sister will love having something made with love with her during her chemo sessions.
I would recommend having a look for the "join as you go" method. It would mean making your existing squares another round bigger but it is SO much easier than sewing them all together at the end. You kind of crochet the squares together in the last round. Good luck.
That sounds like a good idea, thanks I'll look that up!
I had a try at crochet a couple of years ago but I was completely rubbish. It looks like you've certainly got the hang of it!
Best wishes to your sister for her treatment.
What a lovely idea. I used to crochet, I wouldn't mind having a go again x #mysundayphoto
It's so therapeutic, give it a go!
Gorgeous, and what a lovely idea. I really hope the chemo goes as well as it can.
Thank you, she's coming out of hospital later so fingers crossed she settles down soon.
I'm so impressed, these are beautiful and will be so appreciated by your sister I'm sure. x
Thank you, I hope so!
I just love the colours and patterns you have created. #MySundayPhoto
A lovely project. Lovely cheerful color so I think this will really help cheer up your sister. #mysundayphoto
What a great hobby….It does look so complicated so well done you!
Good luck, I hope all goes well with your sister x
Yay another crocheter. Lovely idea to make a blanket for your sister. I've not crocheted since March and only got a third of the way through a crochet-a-long but am meant to be starting another one today…have yarn, just need to find some time each week to do a little bit.
When my mum was ill, that's when I got back into crocheting. It's so comforting and relaxing, and I want to eventually make a blanket for the hospice. Our local one has crocheted blankets from volunteers on every bed and chair. Makes it really bright and cheerful for everyone there.
You have really given me a craving to crochet again! I like the colours x
So sorry to hear about your sister. Oddly enough I bought a book on how to crochet, a stick and some wool this week. Not got as far as you though, they look gorgeous ๐
I wouldn't even know where to begin with making these. I really hope it cheers your sister up and I hope the treatment goes well
Thank you for linking up
Great job I so wish I was able to do this .xx
Beautiful work – our best wishes to you and your sister at this time! xx
Well done they look great!
I tried to start doing this, but I completely failed lol x
What a lovely thing to do for your sister. I wish I could do this
How lovely! crocheting is fairly easy, I was daunted at first but now I too am literally hooked! good luck with your project, be sure to share the results ๐ #MySundayPhoto xx
