B is for... bedroom

It's been a while coming but the inevitable will soon become reality; The Boy needs to change bedrooms. He needs to transfer from his baby room, his nursery with the beautiful tree and calming landscape painted on the walls with his cotbed and bedguard keeping him safe at night, to his big boy bedroom.

And I'm finding it surprisingly difficulty to deal with emotionally.

We'd always planned for him to move from the smallest bedroom (which had been plenty big enough for a wriggly, squiggly baby) into the second bedroom when he was old enough, and now he's in school he needs to have his own room which he can play in. At present, his beautiful bedroom holds his (cot) bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and 'the chair'; there's no room for toys at all. I'm very aware though that as friends come home from school to play, that they might well start to comment on the style of his room, combined with them needing a bit more privacy to form their friendships.

The plan is that on his 5th birthday he will move from this…

… to this.

B is for...

Obviously it's not finished! However, the top photo was taken a week ago, and the bottom photo was taken last night. In that seven days we've emptied the room of 85% of the junk stored in it (don't ask where it's gone), painted the alcoves white and repainted them light blue. We've got a remaining fortnight to finish painting the room (top secret – that's another post), have it carpeted, construct the Ikea furniture (hidden in the porch) and complete the finishing touches.

We'll do it because my sister said we wouldn't.

However, I do keep finding myself in floods of tears while redecorating.

You see… I thought I would have had another baby by now, who would be moving into the nursery as The Boy moves out.

Oh lovely, this sounds so tough sending you lots of hugs. The Boy is just going to love his new room though. Sounds like you've already worked so hard, can't wait to see it all finished – and you must hide in the room so you can capture The Boy's face! Thank you so much for sharing and joining in #alphabetphoto

Thank you lovely, I'm hoping it does look as wonderful as in my mind's eye. Sorry for making you cry, it's a bit of an emotional struggle here at the moment and not one I normally discuss.

oh sweety, sending big hugs your way. I can't imagine how hard it is to watch your kids grow up, but I can imagine, to some extent, the feeling of wanting another child. If you ever want to chat you know where I am. xxx

I'm so sorry, it must be so hard. I'd love to offer some lovely words of wisdom but I'm no good at that, I've typed and deleted several sentences now but they probably all sound crap so instead I'm going to say how cool and exciting the bedroom must be for The Boy, I can't believe you managed to keep it all a surprise for him – that's impressive 😉
