Easter is a wonderful time for crafting with children; so many different types of materials and craft types can be explored with them. In this Easter card tutorial, we've used the popular craft of button art to liven up a traditional 'egg' card.
Button Art Easter Egg Card
You'll need:
- pastel coloured card for the card (we used green)
- pastel coloured foam for the egg (we used cream)
- a variety of buttons of different sizes and pastel colours (shades of pink, light green, lilac, light blue, peach and pale yellow work best)
- PVA or craft glue
- pastel coloured ribbons
- scissors
- pencil
- egg template
- Fold the coloured card in half to create the actual card.
- Draw an egg shape onto the foam using the template and cut it out; ensure it fits onto the front of the card.
- Cover the foam with glue.
- Start at one end of the egg shape (we started at the top) and fill the whole shape with the different buttons. Try to avoid the same colour buttons next to each other too often, and mix up the size of the buttons as well to provide variety in the pattern. Keep the buttons close together as well so that the background colour shows through in the corners between buttons.
- Leave to dry for an hour.
- Cut the ribbon to a little longer than the width of the egg.
- Glue the back of the ribbon, and turning it over place it across the egg, pressing down to ensure it sticks firmly.
- Once dry, cut the excess ends from the ribbon.
- Glue the egg onto a piece of contrasting card, then once dry cut out leaving a 0.5cm allowance all the way around.
- Glue onto the centre of the card and leave to dry for an hour.
