From the first moments that The Boy could crawl, one of his favourite activities was crawling up the sofa and onto the windowsill behind. He'd then lift up the net curtains and sit there waving at the people going past. His most favourite person to wave at was the driver of the dustbin lorry that goes up the street on a Tuesday and a Friday. Even now, he still insists on watching them go past, and now they wave back to him.
When I saw that WOW Toys have a range of vehicles found about town and that one of these is Flip'n'Tip Fred the recycling lorry, I was more than happy to review it with The Boy. His little face when he saw it was an absolute picture and he spent a very busy hour or two playing extremely contentedly with it.
Fred is an extremely endearing vehicle with his robust frame and sweet little face, and The Boy completely adores him. I completely adore the fact that there are no batteries, and therefore no nasty flashy lights or sounds, in any of the WOW Toys. There is a realistic engine sound and Fred has a friction-powered motor which works really well. In addition, Fred has a clicking lever and door, a pull lever to tip bins into truck from front and a pull rear lever to flip bins into back of truck, an automatic revolving ‘waste crusher’ and a sliding side door which goes up and down revealing the rubbish collected. Fred also has a very cute bright red swinging bucket on the front which is great for scooping up toys and flipping them into the main compartment.
Keeping Fred company is also the lovely Lucy and gorgeous George who help him to collect the recycling. And it is recycling which is promoted as the rubbish, which I am particularly pleased about being a little eco-warrior on the side.
The Boy absolutely adores Fred, and whenever his friends come over to play they actually fight over him. It is the first vehicle (and we have many!) that any of them go for, both boys and girls, but because it is a large toy then it is easier for two or three of them to play with it at the same time.
As an aside, I love the fact that these are good, educational, British toys that promote imaginative play. You have got to read the background to the establishment of this toy company, there's a reason that Nadim Ednan-Laperouse has been awarded the MBE for recognition for his services to the toy industry and to overseas trade.
I am incredibly lucky to be able to offer one reader the opportunity to win a Fred (worth £27.99) of your own. In order to do so please do the following:
