Orchard Toys: Nursery Rhymes Jigsaws

I cannot even begin to convey how big a fan I am of Orchard Toys. The British brand produces some of the best games and toys around on the market, and that's both mummy-voice and teacher-voice speaking there.

We were recently sent Nursery Rhyme: Four in a Box jigsaws to review, which came at the right time because The Boy has become very interested in puzzles lately.

The images used on the puzzles are: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star; Humpty Dumpty; Jack and Jill; and Hey, Diddle, Diddle. Which is, quite frankly, ever so convenient as these are his favourite rhymes at the moment! If you are unsure of the words (I'm certainly not, that much I can assure you) then they are written on the back.

What I really liked about this jigsaw set is the differentiated puzzles that come with it. There are four puzzles: a four-piece, six-piece, eight-piece and a twelve-piece. The set is billed as being for 3 years+, however The Boy is 2 years and manages quite well with the two larger piece jigsaws (i.e. the 4 and 6 piece).

As for the other two puzzles, the 8-piece and 12-piece, when the pieces are laid out loosely in the correct order then he is able to do the puzzle. The bright, attractive and uncluttered images make it easier for the children to visualise the adjoining pieces. Additionally, it is very easy to complete the puzzles due to the fact that each one is colour-coded around the edges; The Boy was able to see very easily which piece goes with which.

The puzzle has been designed to: encourage observation and fine motor skills, develop social communication, and communication and language and literacy skills.

I can't wait to introduce puzzles to Esther and William. It is their birthday on 24th July and I would like to get them this as their nursery and playroom have a jungle theme. It looks simple to do with little hands and a nice colourful introduction to jigsaws and puzzling. Great website, no one wonder you and The Boy are such fans. Twinkle Twinkle is our favourite nursery rhyme at the moment x

My favourite product is their farmyard puzzle
    http://www.orchardtoys.com/products/farmyard/

Chosen because it is in fact my little girls favourite! It is really simple and has really helped her get the idea of doing puzzles herself. She is so pleased when she gets the pieces together, and of course she loves the animals! Orchard toys are fantastic and so much harder wearing than a lot of other makes. You know if you buy one of their products it's going to get well used, well loved and passed on to the next person to play with!

Thanks so much, would love to be entered my daughter would adore this nursery rhyme puzzle! It would make a great 2nd birthday present for her,

I have like on facebook too,

My little girl has recently become obsessed by puzzles. She has a box full of wooden peg puzzles but is ready for her first jigsaw and this looks like a fantastic set – Twinkle Twinkle is her favourite nursery rhyme so she'd love that one.

All the Orchard games look great and I can't wait until she is old enough to play them. Pick and Mix People is my favourite and is going on my christmas list.

Hi and thanks for another great comp!

I love the Shopping List Game, simply because it can be played again and again and children never get sick of it, you can have several players, and it develops hand-eye coordination, literacy skills, mathematical skills, social skills and everyday skills! You can talk to you child about where the shopping items have come from, how they are made, where you would find them in the supermarket, etc and you could group them into different sets!!!
I was a Primary School teacher before becoming a full time mum and had several sets in my classroom. I also have a set at home now for my own children!!!

I have shared on FB (liking both pages) Tracy Nixon MSE
