Family Entertainment Options

Money is tight in our house, so when it comes to movies we only go to the cinema when it’s something we really want to see on the big screen. The rest of the time we get our entertainment at home. Over the years we have tried several different options for meeting our entertainment needs and below is an outline of all the different services we have used.

Five Indoor Plants for Shady Rooms (Guest Post)

In our old house we were able to grow a number of plants which thrived in the lighting conditions; I had countless orchids which bloomed continuously and my peace lily was constantly a mass of elegant white flowers. We've been in our home now for ten years and I haven't had a single blossom from either peace lily in that time, and the orchids went in the bin after the first year.

The problem is that our rooms are just too dark for them. In this post, a number of different plant options are provided for those like me who can't get their foliage to behave!

Indoor gardening has a number of benefits, from improving the aesthetics of a space with colourful blooms and verdant foliage to naturally purifying the air by taking in carbon dioxide and emitting fresh oxygen. Light is one of the single most important factors in the growth and development of a plant, but luckily, plants represent an extremely broad range of diverse organisms and there is a houseplant that does well in practically any environment imaginable.

Beach Play In The Golden Hour

The weekends lately have been hectic, not enough time for us as a family to actually do something and be together enjoying each other's company. Last weekend we nipped down to see my sister and her family in the next town, and knowing she wouldn't be home for another hour we wandered down to the beach. She lives one street away from the coast and their beach is dominated by rockpools galore, perfect for Winter exploration.

Moving Home

Do you know when's not a good time of year to try and buy a house?

And not being in a chain makes absolutely no difference whatsoever. Not at Christmas time. All the usual rules of buying a house go out of the frost-encased window.

Or they did for us when we bought our home ten years ago.

Kingdom of The Elves at Bluestone, Wales

Family time over Christmas is so important, and with time being such a precious commodity in modern life it can be hard to fit in the special events and occasions which make memories.

We were recently invited to spend a weekend at Bluestone National Park Resort in west Wales in order to enjoy their Christmas extravaganza of the Kingdom of the Elves, and it was without a doubt the perfect thing to start off our celebrations over the festive season.
