The Alternative Advent Calendar – National Kindness Day

It was around this time last year that I heard one of the families in our school was on the verge of being made homeless. Through a few unfortunate circumstances, they had gone from a middle-class family with two working parents and three happy children, to divorced and jobless with bailiffs at the door and children who didn't know where their next meal was coming from.

Having taught all three girls, it was more than I could bear, but the only thing I personally could do to help was donate to the local foodbank that I knew they would use. Since then The Boy and I have been food shopping in Aldi several times and we make an effort to take it to the church, where they explain the foodbank to him and he sees how the process works.

Earlier this week we went shopping again.

Christmas Story Books (Review)

One the first day of December I change over every one of The Boy's reading books in his downstairs bookshelf for a Christmas book; over the years we've amassed a fair few! New books are wrapped up and tokens to receive them are placed in his home-made advent calendar, he manages to have a new Christmas book once or twice a week leading up to Christmas Day. This year is no exception and some of those new books are listed below.

Welcome to 365 Photo A Day Project linky. This linky covers round-up posts for the week or one of your favourite photos of the week. I've written a post providing tips for completing the project, always ask one of the regulars for help if you're stuck.

The 365 linky only works because of people linking to it and then contributing their thoughts to others' posts via comments. I can't emphasise this enough, it's the whole point of the linky!

Join in by entering the URL of your favourite photograph of the week (either a 52 or a 365 photo) and show some comment love to everyone else in the community. We've got a Facebook group, and now I've created a collaborative Pinterest board (if you'd like to collaborate, let me know and I'll add you).

  1. Choose your favourite photo from the past week and link it up below.
  2. Please add the badge to your linked-up post so that other people know how to find all the other fabulous entries.
  3. If you can spare five minutes to comment on a few other entries I know they'd appreciate it!

"The Spirit of Christmas" by Nicky Benson (Book Review)

Christmas storybooks are a magical thing that help build the excitement of the season, exploring the world of Father Christmas and the elves in a way that children can't really witness. That magical moment when Father Christmas descends down chimneys all over the world, spreading love and happiness, is one that books and films can help to recreate, but it's not something that children can experience in reality.

I'm always keen to fill the house with quality storybooks at Christmas, books that help to build the warm glow inside. And just as 'The Polar Express' is the perfect film for this, I've now found the perfect book.
