Five Indoor Plants for Shady Rooms (Guest Post)

In our old house we were able to grow a number of plants which thrived in the lighting conditions; I had countless orchids which bloomed continuously and my peace lily was constantly a mass of elegant white flowers. We've been in our home now for ten years and I haven't had a single blossom from either peace lily in that time, and the orchids went in the bin after the first year.

The problem is that our rooms are just too dark for them. In this post, a number of different plant options are provided for those like me who can't get their foliage to behave!

Indoor gardening has a number of benefits, from improving the aesthetics of a space with colourful blooms and verdant foliage to naturally purifying the air by taking in carbon dioxide and emitting fresh oxygen. Light is one of the single most important factors in the growth and development of a plant, but luckily, plants represent an extremely broad range of diverse organisms and there is a houseplant that does well in practically any environment imaginable.

Disney Planes Fire & Rescue Fire Blastin' Dusty Crophopper (Review)

The Boy has recently discovered the wonder of Disney films which has made Saturday night movie night a lot easier! It all started earlier this year when we went to see Planes: Fire and Rescue in the cinema; he was completely captivated with Dusty Crophopper and Blade Ranger racing up and down Piston Peak.

A month or so ago we were sent the absolutely marvellous Disney Planes Fire & Rescue Fire Blastin' Dusty Crophopper which is one of his favourite toys at the moment. This isn't just an ordinary character plane, the Fire Blastin' Dusty sucks up 'water' balls and with the flick of a switch fires them out at the flame targets.

Beach Play In The Golden Hour

The weekends lately have been hectic, not enough time for us as a family to actually do something and be together enjoying each other's company. Saturdays are dominated by running from here to there via everywhere, and Sundays have seen me panicking about school work and ending up with no family time. It's not great, we need to re-address the balance.

Last weekend we nipped down to see my sister and her family in the next town, and knowing she wouldn't be home for another hour we wandered down to the beach. She lives one street away from the coast and their beach is dominated by rockpools galore, perfect for Winter exploration.
