10 Outdoor Activities & Play Ideas (Tuesday Tutorials)

Months of wonderful outdoor play beckon us and in celebration of that I've selected a range of activities from the past two link-ups for this week's Tuesday Tutorials.

Beach barts

  • We've spent most of the weekend outdoors in the wonderful sunshine and enjoying each other's company as a family. Today we explored a simple and easy game called 'Beach Barts' which involves pebbles and concentric circles; it took over half an hour and was wonderful fun which I know will become a staple beach activity from now on. (This idea comes from a book I've been sent to review called 'The Beach Book' by Fiona Danks & Jo Schofield, which is published by Frances Lincoln on 4th June. To order 'The Beach Book' at the discounted price of £7.99 including p&p (RRP: £9.99), telephone 01903 828503 or email mailorders@lbsltd.co.uk and quote the offer code APG329.)
  • We are forever collecting shells and driftwood on the beach and I never know what to do with them! Last week, we collected them together, drilled holes in them and created a driftwood beachchime to hang in our garden.
  • Another use for all those shells and beach trinkets is these seashell decorations, how cute would they be with a hole through them and hung up to dangle in the Summer breeze? We've made a beachcombing treasure tile in the past which still hangs proudly in our dining room. Of course, there's always painting the shells to use as trinket holders as well!
  • The Boy has a large wigwam which we always set up during the Summer months for him to have as a den outside as a refuge from the sun. I love this toy teepee which could be developed to create a whole village!
  • We're forever losing our watering cans in the garden, this recycled bottle watering can solves that problem while also reusing one of the biggest rubbish items in our recycling bin each week.
  • On our to-do list for years has been a mudpie kitchen, yet I keep on putting it off for some reason. This is the year that we make it, and I love the simplicity of this one.
  • The Boy is absolutely obsessed with dandelions at the moment, and I've stopped telling him off for blowing them and spreading them around the garden; blowing dandelion clocks is one of life's simple pleasures. This dandelion race game is a great way of involving children in garden play, and once they've finished counting them then they can use them for painting with in this floral painting activity.

The Tuesday Tutorials Pin Party Guidelines:

  • Use the linky below to add the URL of your Pin or blog post. This will then be added to our Pintorials Pinterest Board. It must be an instruction post of some kind, e.g. crafts, recipes or learning through play opportunities. It can be old or new, and you can add more than one per linky but please don't repeatedly add the same thing week after week.
  • By linking up your post, you agree to us using at least one picture if your post is featured in a round-up. Therefore please make your images 'pinnable', or it possible to right-click and save.
  • Follow the Pintorials Pinterest Board. If you’d like to follow the four hosts too that would be appreciated; ET Speaks From Home, Hodge Podge Craft, and TheBoyandMe.
  • Visit at least 3 of the sites pinned below and pin them to one of your boards. If you’d like to say you’re visiting from #Pintorials (or Tweet about the linky) that would be marvellous. Of course you can pin more than that if you want!
  • Please either use the badge below, or give a textlink back as it helps to spread the word about the great range of ideas (and yes, it can be no-follow, I'm not precious!).

I can't wait to see all the creativity from everyone this week, please add your ideas below!

Stunning ideas there, I loved watching my boys explore on beach recently in Jamaica from catching and letting crabs free to building sand castles, collecting shells and searching for fish-basically having the times of their lives, if only there was a British beach closer to where we live x
