Days 53 – 59 of Project 365

Days 53-59 of Project 365

53. An easy day at home today with cuddles, Christmas crackers and craft – I taught The Boy how to use watercolours and he did a wonderful job with the precision, I just need to work on him not scrubbing with the paintbrush; the me that was an Art A level student was squealing internally!

54.Β Long day in work = sleeping child shot #1

55. Another long day in work = sleeping child shot #2

56. More painting (which didn't work!) and anxiety. The Boy has been so worried lately about our mortality, and keeps having what he calls 'daydreams' about us dying. Any tips?

57. After school play at the beach, and The Boy decided to scoot down the lifeboat ramp. Luckily he stopped before the big pile of pebbles and the great big sea!

58. Time to celebrate St. David's Day in school and so The Boy went in prepare with his rugby shirt and dragon hat on. Afterwards we popped to my sister's house (she was supposed to be having her third chemo round but couldn't due to rubbish veins) so that the children could have a catch up.

59. My sister was supposed to be trying to have her chemo again today (but wasn't successful and she'll need to have a Pic line inserted) and so my mum came over with The Boy's cousins. I shoved the boys out into the garden for some fresh air and they ran around madly playing chase. I love this photo of them trying to catch each other around the climbing frame.

I love the concentration face! Two of mine have been asking lots of questions about us dying recently, it's so hard to know what to say. I usually just say that it won't happen for a long, long time, and they seem ok with this answer for now. I don't want to worry them but I don't want to entirely wrap them in cotton wool either. They are aware that it happens to everyone eventually and is part of life (although its still a very abstract concept for them).

Love the little Welsh dragon πŸ™‚ Boo to long work days but still lovely sleeping shots. I guess it's no surprise for him to be thinking about life and death with everything going on with our sister, some children need to know more than others and some think, and dwell, more than others. Try not to worry, easier said than done i know, and sending ou strength and a hug – I'll give you an actual squeeze soon x

Love the photo of his cheeky face in the St Davids Day outfit. I did A Level art too and have a 'thing' about paintbrushes being used properly – it makes my skin crawl when they aren't!
Sorry to hear about his 'daydreams'. No tips, I'm afraid. I hope it's something short-lived that runs its course.
I hope your sister is doing OK. It must be such a difficult time for you all. It's good that you can help out with her kids to take some of the pressure off. x

I saw the boy in his St Davids day gear the other day and thought he looked great. Love the scooting down the life boat ramp shot, I bet your heart was in your mouth πŸ˜‰ Thinking of you and your sister x

Ah, I see the tongue of concentration is back. I am so glad he stopped his scooter before hitting the sea – mine do that and give me kittens everytime!

I LOVE that cheeky little picture of the boy in his dragon hat – so cute! How great that the cousins could let off some steam together. Must be hard for your sister's children too. Thinking of you all x

What a lovely mischievous look in the St David's Day picture – and I always love your beach pictures. My son also went through a phase asking all about life and death, sometimes even waking us up at night to tell us he was scared about it. My brother-in-law was going through chemo as well so I'm not sure if that sparked it or just an awareness as they get a bit older about mortality. Wonderful the last shot of the cousins playing with each other.

Lovely pics! I was first laughing about the painting shot I guess he might have been painting a bear or something? …If it were any of mine it would have been a poo painting! πŸ˜‰
Sorry to hear about the anxiety ….I look forward to someone else's tip!! Miss 4 is working through it and we've just sat with her, hugged her, let her cry, comforted her, talked about it AGAIN <3
…I don't have any other 'tips'

    Wishing you a lovely day.

I love the photo of The Boy scotting down to the beach, that's stunning. Sounds like he is going through a tricky stage. I don't have any tips, sorry, but I hope it passes soon. x

Boo to long days. Every good wish to your sister. I adore the climbing frame picture – the captured energy poised ready to be chased is just perfect. We emphasise over and over again when conversations about death come up that most people die when they are very old and very ill and their time has come. We do love the book "No matter what" which we have used about separation anxiety but I know has worked for others. Is it possible that he is picking up on worries about your sister's illness? xxx

Love the dragon hat shot, saw that earlier in the week and thought it was fab! And, your beach shots are always amazing πŸ™‚ No advice on the day dreams I'm afraid, other than to keep answering his questions and reassuring. Thinking of you and your sister xx

laughed at his expression with the dragon hat on, and love the concentration on his face when painting.
Glad he stopped before he fell in the sea, its a bit cold for getting soaked.
Sadly as far as "dying" is concerned I feel you should be honest, no point it telling him your not going to die and then something awful happens. Reassurance and honesty and the keys I feel.

I just love his expressions! Looking rather cheeky in his school uniform! I always adore your beach shots. Leaves me longing for our next trip to the seaside. Roll on May. Hopefully sooner. Enjoy the blog conference next week x #365

Lovely pics of the boy x I do hope his fears don't linger. Agree to just say that you'll probably be old people before you die. After my daughter died, my children wanted to know about their life expectancy (she was 12), we told them that some people can live to be 100 but some don't. My son is counting down he says he's got 93 years left! I hope your sister gets her treatment OK. This happened to my friend (no veins) and the line saved so much stress and discomfort so hopefully it'll make treatment easier now. x

Thank you so much for such a sincere comment. I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter, and the fears about mortality it brought your other children. I've been told to play along with his statements and concerns, asking what would happen and turning it slightly ridiculous until he realises it's silly. I also hope the line will ease it for my sister. Thank you!

lovely sleeping shots and he looks great in his Welsh clothes πŸ™‚ and i love that he is wearing a cracker hat!
Burton went through a stage a few months ago about not wanting to die and not wanting me to die and being scared he was going to die πŸ™ it is horrid but i guess a normal stage x

Loving all of your pics as usual. Do the two sleepy ones mean you had such a long day he was asleep when you got in ? Sorry honey, hope you have a less busy week this week, although we have Cymru, so it'll be a manic weekend but one that will free up your dining and living room. Can't wait to get my mitts on one of those bags πŸ˜‰
So so very sorry to hear about your Sister. Awful for you all to go through. Looking forward to giving you a cuddle.
