F is for…

… frightened first-timers.

Camping Expert?

As The Boy gets older I knew it would happen sooner or later, I've just always hoped for the later.

Camping.

I don't do camping. I do beds and toilets and showers and mirrors. I do stoves and television and fridges and black-out blinds.

However, we've been sent some camping gear to review and I'm quite petrified by it all. I have never camped, I don't know what to do. I'm anxious about the security aspect and The Boy not being there in the morning. I'm not looking forward to trekking across a campsite to pop to the loo. The last time I shared an airbed with someone was my sister twenty years ago and I didn't sleep a wink all night.

Most of all, I'm slightly frightened that I'm going to like it…

I so get where you're coming from – I hate camping too and refuse to go, but my family loves it! They do an annual trip of one night with my husband's best friend and his kids, and my boys get to go on lots of Scout camps. I keep thinking maybe one day I'll try a night, but I never do!
Good luck with it! (Lovely photo by the way.)

Enjoy reviewing the gear. Who knows, you might like it. Certainly seems like your boy is looking forward to it if the picture is anything to go by! Good luck.

I hope you like it. We have just camped in a trailer tent for the first time and loved it. I've camped in tents before too, but I've got to be honest and say I prefer the trailer tent. I'm happy as long as I'm warm-and have electric hook up!

We did the camping thing last Fathers Day and its a bit bad as I forgot to bring blankets (thinking its not cold as its summer) and my contact lens solution kit. So it is fun but not that fun. And yet I want to do it again as it is nice to see my son enjoying the outdoors. You should see him by the fire! He loves watching the flames go up. Sigh. I miss it already. #MySundayPhoto

You will love it! I never did it as a kid but got into it while we lived in New Zealand. We always took good coffee and a stove top, and that made a difference! I surprised myself with how much I loved it! x

A lovely picture. I'm not a camper either, I love a bed too much but I too am waiting for my eldest to ask to go camping. I might settle with him having a tent in the garden if it comes up x #MySundayPhoto

I loved camping when I was younger I can't wait until mine are abit older so we can all go although I think I could only do a weekend I don't know how some people go for a whole week!

I can't wait to take N camping, although I do have to have a good shower block and toilets. The OH will never go, so chances are I'll be roping my best friend to help once her son's a bit older too . she's got her DoE award, so she knows what she's doing!

Our children are always camping, either here at Coombe or with Scouts or on residential trips! The boy will have a great time and looks the part with some great equipment there! Good luck and please let us know how you get on? Thanks for linking up and sharing with Country Kids.

Hope you enjoy your camping. Probably like marmite – you either love it or hate it. So long as there is a decent loo, I'm happy. (and maybe one night in a hotel!) #CountryKids

last time we did it ( nearly 20 years ago) we took the 3 youngest and did a day here and a day there. The last day we did was the Galloway Forest. I woke at 6am for a pee, so I unzipped the tent, and about got choked by 6 billion zillion midges, who like to eat me. They got in the tent, in me nose, in me clothes etc etc. They bit lumps out of me.
So we woke up 3 kids, threw them (literally I think) into the back of the car, dismantled all the equipment and piled everything on top of them, with the youngest one greeting cos she was still tired (poor wee sausage) and left. Picture the scene, I have a brown bag on my head with 2 eye holes torn so I can see but dont have to breath them in a carrier bags on my hands and arms to stop them biting me and a nighty, joggies and little underwear!!
Drove to the beach at Girvan and unpiled everything back out and repacked the boot neatly, fed the kids breakfast and went home….never to camp again

The moral, check where midgies go before you camp, looked fine in the afternoon when we set up.

Im sure you will be fine. (cough cough)

Brilliant! I too have never fancied camping but since having a boy I have found myself thinking about it. I do worry about waking up to find William not in the tent though. I am certainly contemplating glamping. Love the look of some of the yurts and wigwams that are popping up all over the place at the moment.

We camp out lots here. We haven't been abroad for years because we feel there's so much fun to be had here while the kids are small. This year, we started our camping weekends in April (freezing) and have lots planned for the summer. That's not to say I wouldn't jump at the chance of a holiday that involved getting on an aeroplane!

Just love that photo of The Boy – I suspect he will love being in a tent! I think you will probably love it too although I'm with you on the panicking! I've not camped since I was a child, just not having a loo nearby scares me LOL! You'll have a ball though I'm sure. Lovely to meet you at the weekend, hope The Boy is doing alright today 🙂

Ha ha! I know the feeling. For years and years I went to the 8 day yoga festival in France every Summer. Hundreds of people camped. I ALWAYS opted for the dorms, even though they had communal showers. One year I got a 6 bed dorm, one year a 4 bed dorm, 2 years in the 50 bed dorm. I always loved it but did. not. camp. A year ago I went "glamping" with Older Single Mum. Thankfully it was Featherdown Farms and therefore glorious – it's a good half way house xxx
