Summer Season Starts

We're incredibly lucky to be able to nip to a beach whenever we feel like it, and in south Wales there is a massive selection of sandy, pebble or rocky beaches to choose from. The local sandy beach is Barry Island and fortunately it's a gloriously wide expanse of sand deemed worthy of a blue flag for cleanliness.

It seems hard to believe today considering the incessant rain, that it was only last weekend that we had our first sunny season trip there. Hot enough for The Boy to strip down to his bathing suit and warrant sun protection cream.

Don't be alarmed by the colour of the sea, it's just the sand mixed in with the water!

It was great to see my little boy, who'd been so poorly the previous week, frolicking amongst the waves and really enjoying his childhood.

We really are, and it's such a great play resource. It's also one of the few places where I really am able to unwind.

Thanks, it was created on an app called PicPlayPost, I'm a beta tester for the Android version at the moment. Saves having to load up Moviemaker and YouTube!

Looks like you had better weather than us this weekend! Not considered visiting South Wales – but looking for a nice break towards the end of summer for a little family getaway… would you recommend? The nicest beach up in the North West has to be around Formby; but we're looking at driving a little further from home this time πŸ™‚

Oh I'd thoroughly recommend it! Around the Cardiff area there is so much to do, Dr. Who exhibit for older children or Techniquest or the museum if it's raining. Then there's all the wonderful beaches; this is Barry Island which had a new Premier Inn nearby.

Every time I see you on the beach I am so jealous but at least I know you appreciate how fortunate you are, thanks for your support xx

Such a special thing, isn't it? When I lived in the middle of England for three years it nearly zapped my soul!

    • TheBoyAndMe says

Oh no! I'd hate that! We lived in Reading for three years and it was so hard to be the furthest inland from any beach around.

Barry Island was my closest beach when I was small! Not sure how clean it was then though… After years in between living in the Midlands and London we're now back by the sea. It's amazing being able to just pop to the beach whenever we fancy it – it's fast becoming Arthur's favourite place to be #letkidsbekids

Aha! No, I don't think it was very clean back then but now they have dog bans and litter pickers so I think they are making a huge effort. Three years of living in Reading and not being able to go to the beach whenever I want almost zapped my soul! It's amazingly refreshing isn't it?

We have one in our town which is only a few minutes away, but that's a pebble beach. It's great for after-school pebble plopping but this is better for a few hours of fun. Thanks for stopping by πŸ™‚

We're very lucky too, there are loads of beaches near us, although our favourite is actually at a fresh water lake (which opened for swimming this weekend, and will have life guards over the summer holidays!). I love watching my lot enjoy the sand and the water x

How lovely to have the beach so close – it's a rare treat for us! Good to see the boy having so much fun, glad to hear he is better x

You guys are so lucky to live so close to the beach. I reckon if we lived next to a nice big one, we'd never be off it either! So glad he is feeling better and seems to have had an amazing time at the beach too! x #LetKidsBeKids

Yes, we are so very lucky to live near the coast. Some days I feel guilty that we don't nip down every day, come rain or shine. I suppose we are guilty of taking it a bit for granted. Thank you for reminding me to appreciate what we have.

I think everyone is probably guilty of not appreciating things on our doorsteps; my husband lived in London for four years for university but never went on a tour or did any touristy things until I took him to London for a weekend a few years ago.
